As per the Ministry of Transportation’s strategic objective to promote the postal sector to become one of the best service providers in the Kingdom of Bahrain

10th November 2013

As per the Ministry of Transportation’s strategic objective to promote the postal sector to become one of the best service providers in the Kingdom of Bahrain which offers citizens services that are at par with international standards, His Excellency Engineer Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, Minister of Transportation and Acting Chief Executive of the Economic Development Board, paid a visit to the Manama Post Office branch to ensure the effective use of the newly acquired hand-held devices being used by postmen.

His Excellency stated that the postmen started using the new additional hand-held devices since the start of November. The devices allow data collected upon the delivery of packages (including time of delivery, recipient’s details, and signed delivery confirmation) to be captured and updated on the post system’s database in real-time. This serves in ensuring that the data is recorded accurately which consequently plays a role in improving the accuracy of the KPI measurements. Moreover, customers are able to track their packages and confirm their receipt.

In terms of the device’s performance and effectiveness, the Ministry of Transportation’s Assistant Undersecretary for Post, Shaikh Bader bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, confirmed that since the introduction of the new devices there has been a marked improvement in operational performance and the tracking of deliveries. The devices are currently being used for the delivery of express mail services (EMS) and will be implemented on parcel and registered letter deliveries at a later stage. Moreover, with 50 devices currently in use, the future goal is to acquire devices for all postmen in order to further improve operational efficiency and performance.

The Ministry of Transportation held comprehensive training sessions to train postmen on how to use the devices and to highlight some of the device’s notable features which include its light-weight, ease of carrying, and extensive data storage capacity with high processing power in retrieving information.
