Bahrain Urban Transit Network

The Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications has recently appointed IDOM Consulting Engineering Architecture to carry out the consultancy services for Bahrain Urban Transit Network project.

The Bahrain Urban Transit project will be implemented in phases. The total length of Phase 1 will be 25 km with 17 stations that planned to be elevated. The first phase will include the construction of Line 1 section between Airport and GCC Rail Station in Salmabad, including the construction of a depot. This phase will also include the construction of Line 2 section between Juffair and Bahrain Financial Harbour (BFH). Line 1 and Line 2 will merge and run on the same track on King Faisal Highway with BFH being an interchange station for both lines.

According to the initial studies the capacity is expected to be   8.000 to 10.000 passengers per hour per direction, and based on these expectations the consult will review the overall network including the proposed lines and develop a phased implementation plan, include detail with preliminary design for route alignment, define the functional specifications for the stations, track infrastructure, operating system and rolling stock additional to the future operations. The Consultant is also responsible to construct a business case for the project with a financial and economic analysis and recommend a procurement model which is appropriate for the project.
